Vibrant Text Tutorial

Here is my first tutorial for the site. More will soon follow. In this tutorial you’ll learn how to do this effect for text. Here is the finished product.

Step 1

Create a new blank document thats 1000×1000 px. Fill it with black.

Step 2

Create the text you want to use. Something nice and blocky works well. I’m using RNS Bobo Dylan from impactolaser.com at 65 pt font and 50 lead.

Step 3

Create a new layer and load the selection of your text layer ( Ctrl+click on the T icon). Go to edit>stroke. Choose 2px width, center and color c7a931.

Step 4

Hide the text layer and go to the blending options of your current layer. Do an outer glow effect. Use the image below to get the settings.

Step 5

Create a new layer and set the layer style to color. Use the gradient toll to add different colors.

So right now you should have something that looks like this.

Step 6

Open a new document at 3000×3000 px. Make sure your background and foreground colors are set to black and white. Go to filter>render>clouds. Drag this cloud layer onto your original document. Then use the transform tool ot shirnk it until it just fits over your text.

Step 7

Set the layer style of the clouds to overlay. Then repeat the process so that you have two layers with clouds on them, with both set to overlay.

Step 8

Now duplicate your top layer and set it to soft light. For this step you’ll need some kind of texture. I’m using a fractal image that I made, but you can use whatever you want.

Just make sure that whatever texture you use is saved as a psd file. While the top layer of your image is selected (the one that’s set to soft light), go to filter>distort>displace. The settings should be 100 for horizontal and vertical scale, stretch to fit, and wrap around. Clikc okay then load your texture. Move this layer to make sure that it completely covers your text.

Step 9

And, your done. Here is your final image.

I think the image also looks good with the text layer turner on.
